Me Again!

Hi!  I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but here I am again.  Part of it is me….I focus on something for a while and then I go on to something else.  The other part is life, it gets busy!  Plus hubby’s schedule plays a part in it since he’s gone for a few weeks, home for almost a few weeks; back and forth, back and forth!

Having a million and one things on our to-do list, I never know where to start.  And I always think about other things that need to be done when I can’t and forget about them when I can.  Please, someone tell me I am not the only one this happens to!!!!

Let me start by updating on you on a happy subject!  Geese!!!!  I can’t tell you how much I love our Buff American Geese!!! The love affair just continues to grow, leaps and bounds.  They adore Hubby & I, but still don’t like Bug very much.  And when I say ‘they’, I mean Clyde!  He loves us, Bonnie more ‘likes’ us.  Although, she did let both of us pet her when we returned from visiting the Magnolia state for a few days.  When we have things to do, we open there pen so they can come hang out with us.  And when the weather is nice, I walk them up to the closest tank (pond for the non-Texans).  Clyde has enjoyed getting in the water both times I’ve brought them up there and Bonnie joined him the second time.

Clyde tends to get right under foot while I’m trying to work.  And I have to take many breaks to give him some loving.  He is very jealous of the dogs as well as any tools I’m using. It is funny when he starts hissing at the shovel.  He would come inside the house if we let him.  Have been trying to talk Hubby into letting him sit on the couch and watch a movie with us.

And another happy note! Bonnie has started laying eggs!!!!  M found one while she was taking care of the animals while we were gone and brought it up to the house.  I cooked it yesterday morning before Hubby had to fly out.  On a side note, geese eggs have no cholesterol.  They are delicious and Hubby likes them more than chicken eggs.  She has since laid another, but I left it down there to see what comes from it.  I know very little about geese and how they do things.  Am thinking she will lay a few until she has enough to sit on.  I sure hope we have some goslings in our future!!!

To be honest, if has been almost two weeks since I started this post.  Guess you can say it’s a mix of ‘life happens’ and ‘out of sight, out of mind’.    But we are now up to six geese eggs laid.  And the geese are finally beginning to warm up to Bug.  He was so excited when he told me Clyde let him pet him and Bonnie ate grass out of his hands.

I know when I began this post I had a few things to share, but they escape me now.  I’m sorry, but I’m being real.  LOL

Blessed Boy

On most Wednesdays, we volunteer at a Soup Kitchen in town.  It’s a blessing we truly enjoy.  We headed home after cleaning up and decided to stop at the Farm & Ranch Expo on our way.  I enjoy learning new things and finding great equipment; Bug enjoys loading up on free hats, calendars, fly swatters, key chains, pens and candy.

Many of the vendors have their own giveaways for sprayers, coolers or cash, but the Chamber of Commerce also has the major event giveaways.  You get the entry and have to get it stamped by numerous vendors before turning it in.  Bug ran around to the vendors to get it stamped (and hats, calendars, fly swatters, key chains, pens and candy) then returned it to me to fill out my information.

He was so excited to turn it in and there’s the mommy part of me that wants to protect him from getting his hopes up to high by saying “Now you realize there’s only like a 1 in 3,000 odds chance we would win this.”  Didn’t phase him one bit.  I didn’t even know exactly what the prize was or where to turn in the entry.  No fear there because Bug always figures these things out!

He was so desperate to wait tip the end of the expo for them to draw the winner.  Momma was tired and ready to head home, while reassuring him that if by some chance we won, they would call us.

As we approached the ranch, he said it was perfect weather to go bike riding.  Told him that was fine as long as he was back in time to feed the animals before we left for church.  While he was gone, the phone rang.  The rep from the Chamber of Commerce told me that I had won the grand prize.  There is just an excitement that comes with winning something, even if I still didn’t know what the prize was.  That excitement exploded when she said it was a Glock 17 pistol!  No wayyyyy!!!!!!

I was so anxious for Bug to return to share the news and couldn’t even reach Hubby on the phone.  Bug was ECSTATIC to say the least when he heard the news.  So we will go tomorrow to do my background check and start the transfer.

Thank You Father for the blessing!!!  And to my sweet boy who wouldn’t let my pessimism stop him!

Found The Secret!

I actually am working on another post, but life on the ranch had me saving it as a draft to finish at a later date.  But I thought I would share a quickie on homeschooling.  Bug is a 6th grader now and we started homeschooling 3 months into his 4th grade year.  There was a surge of parents pulling their kids from public school due primarily to the Magnolia state adopting the Common Core standards (which I affectionately refer to as #CommonCoreCrap).  Bug was in the gifted program and I remember the woman I turned the paperwork into saying he had the best grades on any that were being withdrawn. (I guess I’m bragging on him :-).

Homeschooling isn’t always easy. Even though this has been the best year so far for us, the last 2 1/2 months have felt like we have been trying to run through knee deep mud! We have fallen behind.  I don’t worry too much about it because we can quickly get caught up.

Bug helped me out on the ranch today, as well as art class with M.  So I didn’t stress to hard about school.  We spent time this evening reviewing some math that I wanted to be sure that he truly understood.  We use CTC math online and I LOVE it! (This is not an affiliate link).

Since it was evening, it was also ice cream time.

We SURVIVED the Blue Bell Famine!!!!!!

I found the secret to happy school time.  Like, the BEST incentive for correct answers, EVER!!!  Every time he got an answer right, he got a bite of ice cream.  He was so happy and eager to go onto the next question.  He was so happy, or perhaps on a sugar rush, that when we finished his assignment, he wanted to go onto Pre-Calculus.  This was even after the ice cream had been put back in the freezer, lol.

Yes, he still wears much of what he eats.

So exponent rules aren’t terribly difficult, but it was an absolute moral booster for him that he scored a 100% in Pre-Calculus!!!!!

And he made 100% on his first assignment!!!  I love my nerd!  I was blessed with 2 amazing nerds!!!  I remember when First Born was in high school.  One of his years in math, his regular teacher was out for an extended period of time and the substitutes often had First Born teaching the class. And whatever you do, do not get First Born talking about science or coffee!  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.  But if you do, be ready to learn a lot!

Not that homeschooling him was ever an option, I try not to regret he didn’t have that option. I never thought homeschooling Bug would be option either, but God gave me the heart and ability to do it.  Is homeschooling for everyone?  No, probably not, but I do feel more people discredit themselves from being able to than should.

I will leave you here, for now.  And I will do my best to finish the other post up soon.
